After the first restart, the install hangs at the please wait screen and does not load, running Vista on a 150 gigabyte Maxtor drive.
Specs:
GPU:Geforce 5700LE CPU:Athlon XP 3000+ Motherboard: AsRock K7S8X
Any help would be much appreciated.

Installation Hangs after first restart.
I have the exact same problem. Now and then when trying to install i get a blue screen. i;ve tried unplugging all usb devices, rewriting the dvd lots, and deamon tools but to no avail.
I think the problem is unsupported hardware, but not too sure. I don't think anyone seems too sure actually. Not even MS.

It sounds like you need to provide a driver at the beginning of Setup via the Load Drivers button. You do not say what kind of Maxtor drive you have (IDE or SATA). If SATA supply the SATA drivers.

I've not found that necessary (Maxtor SATA in a Dell).

Make sure (you probably already checked this) that the ribbon cable is 80 wire. There is still a lot of 40-wire around.
